Daily-deals sites multiplying rapidly… I’m fine with it

I’m a big fan of Groupon. And Living Social. While I’ve never purchased any of the deals from either of these sites, I get excited every time I see the emails in my inbox. There’s always the slight possibility that something I can’t live without will jump in front of my face and I won’t be able to resist.

Our very own Jennifer Heisler took advantage of a Groupon deal recently, getting herself a brand new bicycle. I’m still a little jealous that I didn’t take advantage of that one.

But Groupon and LivingSocial  are not the only daily-deal websites in the market anymore. According to a recent USA Today article, new entrants saturating the Internet have caused such sites to lose their luster.

Hmm. It’s true. While Groupon and LivingSocial are the most recognized sites, there are many more in the Lowcountry. The Post & Courier sends out the Charleston Savvy Shopper notifications with discounts on items from local retailers, and the Charleston City Paper publishes a Daily Deal blog. Another newbie is Deal Rhino, a daily-deal site like Groupon, but this company gives a percentage of its earnings to local charities and nonprofits.

You have the freedom to sign up for any of these sites. You control how flooded your inbox becomes. And maybe, like me, one day you’ll see a deal you can’t pass up. Personally, I’m waiting for another bike deal.
